Lesson 6 (Performance)

In this lesson we performed our piece including the epilogue and prologue. Our piece was average and was not as good as we have been doing during the lessons. In our piece we made little mistakes that in the end would overall have a big effect on our marl. Besides from the little mistakes our piece was good all around and i think we made a piece which engaged the audience.

Lesson 5

Lesson 5 was all about putting the finishing touches to the piece so that it was good for the performance in the coming lesson. We ran through the piece a few times and members of the group all made suggestions on ways to give our piece the finishing touches. We continued to run through the piece so that it was fresh in our minds and everyone knew their lines and their movements.

Lesson 4

In this lesson we made sure we had techniques like space and the relationships between the characters were clear so that our performance was as clear and engaging as possible. We also did a run through of our piece and at the end of it we decided that we needed to at least put a few more scenes in to finish the story off and to add some minutes to the piece. We started to think of scenarios that would work out well with the end part of our performance. We came up with the idea of finishing the piece of with Isabella confessing to Il Capitano that she is Columbina not Isabella.

Evaluation of another group (group 1)

Group 1 ensured their scenario was clear for the audience by using spacing and the relationships between the characters. The relationships between the characters were very clear and they used the space very well. Because they did these 2 things it made the whole scenario more clear just from making sure two techniques were right. They used the time very well in their piece as each scene was quick and effective. They also used spacing very well and every character in every scene used the space very well which from the audiences view made it very engaging. The best part of this performance in my eyes was the physicality and expressions of the characters. Each character had very good physicality and expressions which overall made this piece very entertaining to watch. The story in this piece flowed very well and it was very easy to understand what was going on in the piece. Overall i thoroughly enjoyed this piece as it was very engaging to watch due to the characters emotions and physicality and also the great story it had with it.

Evaluation of own group

We ensured that our scenario was clear for our audience by continuing to have flow throughout the piece so that the audience could clearly understand what is going on. We made sure the transitions between the different scenes were smooth so that the audience was engaged and could clearly understand the story. The relationships between the characters were also very important which we had to make sure we know the relationships between the characters so that the scenarios were clear. Our group used space to show an understanding of Commedia dell Arte and we also used it to show relationships between the different characters. Space was also key in our piece as it gave the scenarios tension and made the audience focus on different spots of the stage instead of just one. The performers in our group used physicality and vocal expressions to show the types of characters they were playing. Examples of this would be Arlecchino in our piece and he moved around at different heights and also used his physicality to show the expressions of the character. We made sure as a group we showed physicality with our characters as it would not be engaging for the audience to be watching characters with no expression and physicality. All members in our group showed physicality and expression quite well with their characters. We used techniques like tension, focus, emotion and exaggerated characters and expressions to overall make our piece more interesting for the audience to watch. All these techniques made the actor and audience relationship stronger as it made the piece more interesting which meant the audience would be more engaged watching it.

Lesson 3

Lesson 3 was all about making our scenes as long and interesting as possible. We started to run through these scenes and each member of the group provided help to make the scenes more interesting. After we ran through the scenes and thought they were as good as possible we started to brainstorm more ideas that would hopefully bring us to the end of the play at the end of the brainstorming.

Lesson 1

In the first lesson we began to start thinking about the characters that we were going to use and which member of the group would fit well with each character. After we figured out all the characters we started to brainstorm ideas for the story of the play. Overall we chose 9 characters which meant that 2 members in the group had to play 2 characters with was Ned and myself. The idea that the group thought would go well was having the first few scenes in a restaurant which would feature il capitano, arlecchino and would later end up featuring characters such as brighella and isabella.

Lesson 2

In lesson 2 we expanded on what we did in lesson 1 and we tried to make our story longer so that we could begin improvising as soon as possible. We came up with another scene which was between Isabella, Brighella and Il Captiano. This scene was the same as the first scene and it was in the same restaurant. In this scene Isabella and Il Capitano are talking to each other as Il Capitano wants to date Isabella but she is already dating Brighella. Isabella is frightened by Il Capitano and calls Brighella to come and help her. When Brighella sees what is happening he is not happy and the two start talking. Il Capitano challenges Brighella to a duel but then backs down and distracts him and then he runs away without Brighella knowing where he has gone. We as a group started to improvise and work on these scenes so we could see how they fitted with all the characters.
